What Temperature can Aluminum Tape Withstand ?

Posted on February 26th, 2024

Aluminum foil tape is known for its high temperature resistance, but the specific temperature range can vary depending on the manufacturer and the specific product. In general, aluminum foil tape can withstand temperatures ranging from around -30°C (-22°F) to approximately 120°C (248°F) or higher.

It’s important to note that the exact temperature tolerance of aluminum foil tape can depend on various factors, such as the adhesive used, the thickness of the tape, and the duration of exposure to high temperatures. Therefore, it’s always advisable to consult SLAA tape’s specifications or guidelines provided with the specific aluminum foil tape product to determine its temperature resistance capabilities.

SLAA tapes use three main types of adhesive, each with a maximum temperature resistance:

Aluminum Foil Duct Tape

Synthetic rubber resin adhesive, Also named Hot melt adhesive.

-20 to +80 °C, -4 to +176 °F

Water-based acrylic adhesive.

-30 to +120 °C, -22 to +248 °F

Solvent-based acrylic adhesive.

-30 to +120 °C, -22 to +248 °F

If you have a specific application that involves exposure to extreme temperatures, it may be necessary to consider specialized high-temperature aluminum foil tape options that are designed to withstand even higher temperature ranges. These specialized tapes may be formulated with silicone adhesives and backing materials that can handle temperatures exceeding 150°C (302°F).

If you need to use it at higher temperatures, SLAA can also provide silicone adhesive tapes, which can withstand temperatures up to 300°C (572°F).

Additionally, it’s important to consider the compatibility of aluminum foil tape with the surface it will be applied to. Some surfaces, such as certain plastics or sensitive materials, may have lower temperature tolerances and could be affected by the heat conducted through the aluminum foil tape.

In summary, while aluminum foil tape generally exhibits good temperature resistance, it’s crucial to refer to the manufacturer’s guidelines and specifications for the specific product to ensure it is suitable for your intended temperature range.
