What is Repulpable Tape?

Posted on February 11th, 2024

Repulpable tape, also known as repulpable splicing tape is designed to be easily recycled along with paper or cardboard during the pulping process. Repulpable tapes are typically made from paper or other biodegradable materials that can break down easily in the pulping process used to recycle paper. The adhesive used on repulpable tape is also designed to be water-soluble or easily disintegrated during recycling.

Repulpable tapes comes in various widths, lengths, and strengths to suit different applications. Some types of tape may have specific characteristics such as heat resistance or high tackiness for specialized uses.

When paper products, including those with repulpable tape, are recycled, they go through a pulping process where the paper is broken down into fibers for reuse. Repulpable tape dissolves or breaks apart during this process, ensuring that it does not interfere with the recycling of the paper.

Applications:

Repulpable Tapes used at paper mills, newspapers, web printers to join 2 rolls of materials to increase the length or provide continuity of substrate. So the repulpable tapes also named Splice Tapes or Repulpable Splicing Tapes.

Repulpable tape is compatible with most paper and cardboard surfaces, making it versatile for a wide range of applications in industries that rely on paper-based materials.

Benefits of using Repulpable Tapes:

Environmentally Friendly: Repulpable tape is considered environmentally friendly because it can be recycled along with paper products without causing contamination or issues in the recycling process. This makes it a sustainable choice for packaging, printing, and other applications where recycling is important.

Cost-effective: Can be more cost-efficient than alternative non-repulpable tapes in the long run, considering waste disposal costs and environmental benefits.

Sustainable paper production: Supports responsible paper manufacturing and promotes closed-loop paper recycling systems.
trong Bond: Despite being water-soluble, repulpable tapes offer good adhesion for various applications.

Choosing the Right Repulpable Tape:

Consider the application: Match the tape's strength, thickness, and adhesion level to the specific splicing task and paper type.
Compatibility: Ensure the tape is compatible with the paper material and the recycling process used.
Environmental certifications: Look for tapes with certifications from recognized organizations like TAPPI (Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry) to ensure their repulpability.
